Simultaneously revered as "one of this country’s greatest living poets" (John Kinsella) Lionel Fogarty is being evicted from his asbestos-ridden dilapidated shack in southern Queensland, renting on his own Malinjali country. In the same week he is speaking at a poetry festival in Germany with Patti Smith, he is facing homelessness in Australia. Upon meeting Lionel it is immediately apparent that the personal and the political have no boundaries. One of the nation’s foremost political activists, an award winning author of more than 15 books, his rise as a warrior of the resistance is pitted against the historical backdrop of Joh Bijelke-Peterson’s police state, and the contemporary housing crisis in Queensland. There are alarming similarities between the then and now as Lionel’s commitment to his politics and his poetry hasn’t wavered.
