Quarks

2023

Uluru is a significant sacred site for Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people and a rare geological monolith, located five hours south of Alice Springs. Since the 1930’s it was legally permitted to climb the rock and after the infamous chain was installed in 1964 to assist climbers, tens of thousands of people would climb Uluru each year. For nearly 90 years Anangu protested, publicly requesting visitors to abstain from climbing until the Australian Government finally announced the climb would close in October, 2019.

Quarks is a short documentary about the final days climbing was legally permitted on Uluru. Although versions of this film have screened publicly, the works remains in perpetual post-production as the filmmakers continue trying to make sense of this absurdly confusing spectacle.
