Fishing for some friends

2017

FFSF was an elaborate pop-up exhibition and film festival at Lucie’s dad’s old rental in Collingwood.

“... presents narrative works that disregard aesthetic and conceptual conventions to frame a new stye of uncertainty. This unknowing mode probes a questioning of our own myths, and challenges our defenses of the real. These works push out of a culture steeped in individuaity, encouraging us to take a step outside our own experiences and to look at the world.

Retreating from elite visual langaueg, FFSF presents alternative representations to reveal deep ruptures in culture. Not only do these works push poitics and thought to their imits, they also confuse them from within, as subjects messiy and restlessly grapple with social and cultural forces, blurring textal and theoretical concerns to locate paradoxes within stray-frames.

FFSF invents a new platform for enquiry that is endlessy entangled, deeply uestioning and accountable to the past while resolutely ooking forward. It is a fim festival devoid of aesthetic hierarchy and conceptual nepotism, housing misplaced images that have the subversive potential to embrace the true complexity of the situation.”
